Feb 05,2022: The government on Friday told Lok Sabha that 83 Indian defence personnel, including prisoners of war are believed to be in Pakistan’s custody.
In a written reply, Minister of State for External Affairs V. Muraleedharan said the Pakistan government has however not acknowledged the presence of prisoners of war or the Indian defence personnel in their custody.
He informed the House that the government has been consistently taking up the matter of release and repatriation of the missing defence personnel with Pakistan through diplomatic channels.
The Minister said, the matter was last raised by the High Commission of India in Islamabad with the Pakistan Ministry of Foreign Affairs through its communication on 1st of January this year.
He added that the government’s persistent efforts have succeeded in the repatriation of two thousand one hundred and ninety three Indian prisoners, including fishermen from Pakistan’s custody since 2014.
