Mar 27,2021: Voting for the first phase of the assembly election in West Bengal began on Saturday morning in 30 of the state’s 294 constituencies amid elaborate security arrangements.
The polling is being held in 30 constituencies across five districts include Purulia, Paschim Medinipur Part I, Bankura Part I, Purba Medinipur Part I and Jhargram parts of which form the tribal-dominated Jangalmahal region, once the hotbed of Maoist extremists that has witnessed prolonged bloodbath and power struggle among the key political forces.
In the first phase, about 73 lakh voters that includes 37.5 lakh male, and 36.2 lakh female electorates will decide fate of 191 candidates in which 21(11%) are female candidates.
Voting for the 47 seats of the Assam assembly seats across 12 districts in the first phase commenced at 0700 hrs on Saturday maintaining COVID-19 protocol.
According to the Election Commission, 81,09,815 voters including 40,77,210 males and 40,32,481 females are eligible to cast their votes at 1,1537 polling stations in the first phase.

Meanwhile, polling will be extended for an hour in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, the office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) said.
The fate of some of the important politicians of the state will be decided today including Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal who is contesting from Majuli.
Assam Congress President Ripun Bora is fighting from Gohpur.
