Shillong, Nov 19: Meghalaya Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma on Monday re-affirmed that his government will oppose the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) if there is anything in the amendment bill which is against the interests of the people of the State.
“We have maintained the same stand right from day one. We are going to oppose if there is anything against our people. The interest of our people and our State is a priority to us,” Sangma said.
“The word CAB is not something which anybody is against. The word CAB has been there in the past. But it is the content of the issue inside it which is our concern. We would like to know whether the concern of the State, the people of the State are addressed or not,” he added
Sangma said that he had already met Union Home Minister Amit Shah on two occasions and expressed his concerns on the proposed Bill and requested him for wider consultations with various stakeholders and political parties.
“The Home Minister was very positive and expressed his intention to meet the people to discuss and address their concern,” he added.
