Kolkata, Nov 11: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah assured West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of all possible assistance from the Centre in the wake of yesterday’s devastating cyclonic storm, which left ten dead and lakhs affected in different parts of the state.
The severe cyclonic storm uprooted hundreds of trees and in the city and its adjoining areas in North and South 24 Parganas and East Midnapore, bring life to a near-halt.
In North Parganas alone, five people were killed in separate incidents, two in South 24 Parganas, one at Nandigram and two in the city while at least 4,65,000 people have been badly affected of whom 1,78, 000 people have evacuated to safer places
” Reviewed the situation in the wake of cyclone conditions and heavy rain in
parts of Eastern India. Spoke to WB CM Mamata Banerjee regarding the situation
arising due to Cyclone Bulbul.” Mr Modi Twitted this morning.
He also ” Assured all possible assistance from the Centre” and ” I pray for
everyone’s safety and well-being,” Mr Modi added.
” Closely monitoring the situation as cyclone Bulbul hits Eastern India,”
Mr Shah said .
” We are continuously in touch with central & state relief agencies. Have
spoken to CM @MamataOfficial and have assured all possible help. I pray to
almighty for those who are braving out this adverse weather,” the Union Home
Minister Tweeted today.
He said ten teams of NDRF in West Bengal and six teams in Odisha have already
been deployed and the Centre was assisting the state administration in evacuation,
restoration of roads and in distribution of relief materials.
” Additional 18 teams of NDRF have been kept on standby, ” Mr Shah informed.
