30 killed in Kullu bus mishap, probe ordered

kulu acci1Shimla, Jun 20 : At least 30 people were killed and an equal number injured after a private bus carrying around 60 passengers fell into a deep gorge at Dayothmorh near Banjar area of Kullu district on Thursday evening.
The state government has ordered a magisterial probe into the accident.
Superintendent of Police, Kullu, Shalni Agnihotri confirmed that 20 passengers died on the spot, while ten succumbed to their injuries on way to hospital.
She said that a local journalist Mohan Lal also died in the accident.
The toll is likely to go up as many injured passengers are in critical condition.
The injured were rushed to hospitals in Banjar and Kullu.
The ill-fated bus skidded off the road and fell into a 500-feet deep gorge.
Two rescue teams were rushed to the accident site to rescue the passengers, the SP said.
The accident sire is about 50 km from the district headquarter Kullu and around 250 km from state capital
Shimla.
The bus was on its way to Garagushani area from Aut of Banjar.
Critically injured persons were refereed to District Hospital Kullu.
The district administration has handed over immediate relief of Rs 50,000 to the injured and next of the kin of the deceased after the identification, an official said.
State government has ordered a magisterial inquiry into the accident. The bus was overcrowded when
the mishap occurred. Most of the victims were returning to their home after school and college admission.
