New Delhi, Dec 14 : Announcing the names of Ashok Gehlot as Rajasthan Chief Minister and Sachin Pilot as Deputy Chief Minister, the Congress on Friday said experience and dynamic leadership have come together in the state and it will fulfill the aspirations of the people.
The decision was taken after hours of lobbying, hectic deliberations and pressure tactics from the two strong claimants to decide the new Chief Minister of Rajasthan.
The names were formally announced at a press conference by AICC general secretary and Congress President Rahul Gandhi’s special emissary for Rajasthan KC Venugopal at the party headquarters here.
He said the newly-formed Congress legislative party in the state held its meeting on December 13.
“Congress President Rahul Gandhi took the decision after consultation with several leaders and legislators,” Mr Venugopal added.
He also said the Congress lawmakers will meet Governor Kalyan Singh on Friday itself.
Mr Gehlot was earlier the Chief Minister of Rajasthan from 1998 to 2003 and again from 2008 to 2013.
Mr Venugopal said experience and dynamic leadership will come together in Rajasthan and it will fulfill the aspirations of the people of the state.
‘(Through this decision) the Congress President wants to provide the people of Rajasthan an experienced and dynamic leadership, which will strengthen the party as well as to fulfill the aspirations of the people,’ Mr Venugopal said.
