Srinagar, June 15 : Jammu and Kashmir police on Friday arrested one of the four suspects involved in the assassination of senior journalist and Editor-in-Chief of an English daily, Shujahat Bukhari.
Bukhari and his two Personal Security Officers were killed when unidentified gunmen showered bullets on them at Press Enclave, Partap Park, near here, on Thursday, shortly before ‘Iftar.’
Addressing a news conference this evening, Inspector General of Police, Kashmir, S P Pani said video footage recorded three motorcycle-borne men fleeing the area.
It surfaced later that the fourth person, who was standing near the spot, was seen taking the pistol of one of the PSOs.
‘We have arrested the person who was seen taking the pistol,’ Mr Pani said, adding that the clothes he was wearing at the time of crime were also recovered. ‘We have also recovered the pistol of the SPO,’ the IGP said.
Declining to divulge details on the grounds that it will affect the probe, the IGP also said a Special Investigation Team had been set up to nab the killers.
