After a delay of around two weeks, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on Monday announced the exam schedule for class X and XII. While the class X exams will be held from March 9 to April 10, the class XII exams will start on March 9 and end on April 29
CBSE had delayed its date sheet by around two weeks as they did not want the exams to collide with the Assembly elections in five states. Usually the schedule is announced by end of December. Examinations have also been delayed by a week this time.
“In view of the state assembly elections being conducted in five states of Punjab, Goa, Manipur, Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh, the examinations have been scheduled starting March 9,” a statement from CBSE said.
“The Board has given careful consideration to the situation before postponing the exams by a week which will now allow the students to get more time for the preparation and ensure uninterrupted sequence of examinations,” it further read.
The Board also said that they have fixed the schedule in such a way that students appearing for Joint Entrance Examination and National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test are able to complete the examination beforehand.
It has also ensured that results will be declared faster as the Board has taken initiatives which will aid in faster result processing.
Over 16 lakh students are appearing for class X examination this year and over 10 lakh for class XII.
The Council for Indian School Certificate Examination (CISCE) is also rescheduling some of its papers. Its earlier date sheet was announced before the declaration of the election schedule.
