New Delhi, Jan 5: Minister of State for Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions Jitendra Singh on Friday said that the Sub Categorization Commission of OBCs will submit its report on May 31, 2019.
Replying on a resolution of implementing “Weighted Indexing System” in reservation benefits, the minister said, “The government has appointed a sub categorization commission of OBCs headed by retired judge G Rohini. The Commission has been asked to submit its report by May 31, 2019.”
The private member resolution was moved by BJP lawmaker Vikas Mahatme, which he later withdrew after receiving assurances from the minister that his concern will be sent to the Commission for consideration.
Discussing on the private member resolution, RJD’s Manoj Jha said sub-categorization is not possible until and unless the caste-based census is not released.
DMK’s TKS Elangovan urged the government to ensure the reservation system must be implemented in full. He also demanded for release of caste based census.
L Hanumantaiah of Congress said that the reservation should be looked scientifically. There is no single village where untouchability is not prevalent.
BJP’s Ram Kumar Verma urged for strengthening the education system so that people can take benefit of reservation.
The five-member panel was to complete its task of sub-categorizing 5000-odd castes in the central OBC list so as to ensure “more equitable distribution” of opportunities in central government jobs and educational institutions.
The panel had to submit the report in three months but since then it is taking extensions. The government has asked them to submit the report by May 31, 2018.
