Mumbai, Jan 5 : A special court here on Saturday declared fugitive liquor baron Vijay Mallya as Fugitive Economic Offender (FEO) under Section 12 of the newly-enacted Fugitive Economic Offenders Act.
Special Judge MS Azmi tagged Mallya as FEO, based on the appeal of the Enforcement Directorate (ED).
Before the acceptance of the ED’s plea, there were brief legal arguments between the ED counsel and the lawyer representing Mallya.
The owner of now defunct Kingfisher Airlines–Mallya defaults on thousands of crore of rupees, which he took as loans.
The Court has scheduled the next hearing on February 5, pertaining to the confiscation of Mallya’s assets.
