Bypolls of Rajya Sabha seats in Kerala, West Bengal on November 29

electionNew Delhi, Oct 31: The Election Commission on Sunday announced the dates of bypolls for two Rajya Sabha seats, one in Kerala and one in West Bengal, to be held on November 29, EC statement said.

The commission said the notification for the elections would be issued on November 9 while the polling would be held on November 29. The counting of votes will begin one hour after the completion of polling as per established convention. The election process will be completed on December 1.

The seats fell vacant after the resignation of Rajya Sabha members, Jose K Mani of Kerala in January this year as his term was till July 2024, and Arpita Ghosh in September as her term was to end in April 2026.

In Maharashtra, a seat of Legislative Council fell vacant due to death of a member in September following which by-election and counting would be held on November 29.

The commission had to postpone the by-election for the Rajya Sabha seat in Kerala due to the second wave of Covid-19 pandemic.
