Addressing a question and answer session after an event in Delhi, Parrikar said, “Something may have gone wrong there (Uri attack). It is a sensitive matter. I believe in zero error”.

He also emphasised that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s statement that ‘those behind the Uri attack will not go unpunished’, will not remain a mere comment. “We are serious about it,” Parrikar said.

Four JeM terrorists had attacked the Army base in Uri on Sunday killing 18 soldiers. The terrorists were also eliminated. The killings have sent India-Pakistan relations plunging to a new low.

Assuring that the Centre will do everything to find out ‘what went wrong’, the Defence Minister stated that steps must be taken to ensure that such incidents are not repeated again. “I will take steps to ensure it doesn’t go wrong again. I normally prefer to implement things than talk,” Parrikar stated.

The defence minister came under criticism as the Shiv Sena in Goa demanded that Parrikar be sacked immediately, claiming that the former chief minister of Goa was more concerned about the BJP’s organisational affairs in Goa than the safety of the country’s borders.
