The Reliance Jio ‘Free Welcome Offer’ was launched on Monday September 6th for free services up till December 31st after which the services turn paid.{blurb}To get a SIM card all you need is an ID proof, address proof and passport photographs and head to the nearest telelcom store. But turns out you need a couple of weeks and a lot of patience as well.

Long queues are visible in stores, with people eagerly waiting to get a sim and make the most of the free services, reports say.

Jio has plans both for prepaid and postpaid services starting at Rs 19 and Rs 149, respectively.

Mukesh Ambani revealed the Jio project on Friday at the shareholder’s AGM where he announced that voice calling and national roaming would be free of charge.He also said that Jio would offer data rates at 1/10th of market rates, cheapest in the world. According to him, consumers can avail the SIM card provided they have a 4G compatible phone.
