The All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC), the Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC) and the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) have called for a strike across the country or Bharat Bandh on September 2 in order to show their disagreement with the central government’s “unilateral labour reforms and anti-worker policies.” Workers associated with the Reserve Bank of India have also shown their support for the bandh. However, RSS affiliated Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh will not be a part of this strike.
To discuss the issue with the trade unions, the government had formed a five-member team of Union ministers including Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, Power Minister Piyush Goyal, MoS Petroleum and Natural Gas Dharmendra Pradhan, Labour Minister Bandaru Dattatreya and MoS Home Jitendra Singh.
