Indian documentary Kota Coaching Factory has defeated films from Bhutan and South Korea to win the first prize at the Asian Pitch film festival 2016 in Taipei.
Directed by Hemant Gaba, the film follows three IIT aspirants studying at different coaching centres in Kota, Rajasthan.
“India has a significant appetite for creative documentaries, but Indian TV channels are reluctant to invest in cultivating new habits for the audiences,” said Hemant after the win.
With foreign agencies showing interest in producing Indian films, the documentary scenario is fast changing. But, there’s still a lot to ensure visibility for these documentaries.
The Asian Pitch took place from August 4-6 and featured selected projects from 136 proposals received in 2016.
As a part of its winnings, the movie will get funding and a broadcast opportunity on foreign networks likes NHK (Japan), KBS (Korea), MediaCorp (Singapore) and PTS (Taiwan).
