New Delhi: Rakesh Kumar Chaturvedi was on Thursday appointed chairman of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), close on the heels of the prime minister-headed appointment committee of the cabinet rejecting the human resource development (HRD) ministry’s choice for the post.
Chaturvedi, a 1987 batch Indian Administrative Service officer of the Madhya Pradesh cadre, has been appointed for a period of five years, an official order said.
The post of the CBSE chairman had been lying vacant since December 2014.
Earlier, the appointment committee of the cabinet had rejected the candidate recommended by the HRD ministry when Smriti Irani was at the helm of its affairs.
