Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his fourth visit to the US met US President Barack Obama at the White House on Tuesday. The meeting focused on a wide range of issues including nuclear civil cooperation and cyber security.
“We are working shoulder to shoulder, we are proud. Will continue working together,” PM Modi said after the meeting. “I want to thank President Obama for his continuous support to India both for MTCR and the Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG),” Modi added.
Obama on his part said that India and the US share a strong bond. “We will continue to work together in the future too,” Obama said.
What PM Modi said: India is the fastest growing economy in the world. India and US are the lergest democracies. We are going to work together in new areas.
India is a young country, over 800 million of Indians below age of 35. Our youth power in partnership with US will serve mankind. In the past two years India and US have been cooperating on issues that are of global concern. Be it global warming or terrorism, we have been working closely.
I want to thank my close friend President Obama, we discussed a range of issues. I also want to thank US Congress for inviting me. We will meet again at the G20 summit, and by that time I hope we would have moved forward on many issues. Climate justice is another important issue.
Here is what US President Obama said: India and USA have strong bonds. India is a young country and we are aware of the talent it has. We will continue to work together in the future too. We discussed regional security issues, we wish to work together on cyber security. We discussed progress made on nuclear civil cooperation. I have fond memories of India, when I took part in Republic Day.
Modi’s visit carries significance not just in the present scenario, but also for Indo-US relationship in future.
This is Modi’s 4th visit to the United State of America. Modi has a packed schedule in US, including the address to a joint session of the US Congress. He will be the fifth Indian Prime Minister to do so. Modi is visiting the US at the invitation of President Obama.
On his first day in US, Modi paid tributes at the Arlington National Cemetery. He also met heads of a number of American think tanks and attend an event to repatriate Indian antiquity by the US.
