New Delhi, Sep 19 ,2021: National Investigation Agency (NIA) which has the specialization to deal with terror related cases, said on Sunday that Islamic State(IS) is trying to spread its tentacles in India through continuous online propaganda, and using social media sites to lure youngsters to connect with IS modules.
The NIA has investigated as many as 37 cases of terror attacks, conspiracy and funding associated with Islamic State (IS) modules. The latest case was registered by the NIA in June this year.
According to the NIA, a total of 168 accused have been arrested by the agency so far.
“The agency registered 37 cases of terror linked with Islamic State ideology and arrested 168 accused. Chargesheet have been filed on 31 cases and 27 accused have been convicted after trial,” the agency said in a press statement.
“Gullible youth are being targeted on open social media platforms. Once a person shows interest, he or she is then enticed to communicate with online handlers based abroad using encrypted social media platforms,” said the NIA statement.
