New Delhi, Dec 15,2020: The Supreme Court on Monday granted two days time to the Centre to file an affidavit on working of the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) in Delhi-National Capital Region and adjoining areas.
Additional Solicitor General Aishwarya Bhati, appearing on behalf of the Centre, informed the bench headed by Chief Justice Sharad Arvind Bobde also comprising Justices A S Bopanna and V Ramasubramanian that since December 3, stubble burning is not an issue for air pollution and the central government is preparing a comprehensive affidavit to be submitted before the apex court.
“Our affidavit is ready. Give us two-day indulgence,” Bhati said.
Senior counsel Vikas Singh, appearing for a petitioner, argued that the 14-member committee has done nothing so far to tackle the major environmental issue.
“You file your affidavit,” the bench told Bhati stating that the affidavit should contain the steps that have taken against the air pollution by the committee so far.
The bench posted the matter for further hearing on December 17.
