New Delhi, Dec 4,2020: Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh on Thursday requested the Centre to listen to the farmers, who are protesting on the borders of the National Capital against the new farm laws, with an open mind and quickly resolve the standoff.
In a tweet after meeting Union Home Minister Amit Shah, the Punjab Chief Minister said, ‘Today I met Union Home Minister @AmitShah Ji and reiterated the need to protect MSP & continue with the APMC based mandi system. Requested him to listen to the farmers with an open mind & quickly resolve the standoff.’
The Punjab Chief Minister told reporters that although he and his government are not involved in any way for mediation and the issue has to be resolved on behalf of the Central Government and the farmers.
Thousands of farmers who are protesting for the past one week on the borders of the National Capital on Wednesday reiterated their demand of withdrawal of new farm laws. Their unions had said that farmers will go back only after their demands are met.
Farmers’ organisations had also called on the Government to call a special session of Parliament to repeal the new farm laws and to give legal status to the minimum support price of crops.
