New Delhi, May 9, As many as 1,458 Indians, including 17 infants, have returned home in the first two days under the Vande Bharat Mission launched to bring back Indians stranded abroad.
The mission was launched on May 7 and 363 people, including nine infants, returned from the UAE in two flights on the first day. On Friday, 1,095 Indians, including eight infants, were brought back here on two flights of Air India and four flights of Air India Express.
The Ministry of Civil Aviation said that 234 people were brought to Delhi from Singapore on Friday. A total 168 Indian students studying in Bangladesh were brought from Dhaka to Srinagar.
The Air India Express aircraft carrying 177 passengers and five infants from Bahrain reached Kochi yesterday.
Another aircraft with 152 passengers reached Calicut from Riyadh.
Civil Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri has tweeted last night,’Mission Vande Bharat is picking pace. 182 Indians from Bahrain, 234 from Singapore, 168 from Dhaka & 152 from Riyadh return back on various flights today.’
Last night, two flights were diverted from Dubai which landed at Chennai airport in the early hours of Saturday.
A plane reached Chennai 0100 hrs last night with 179 passengers and three infants. The second aircraft, carrying 177 passengers, landed at Chennai airport at 0150 hrs.
