vijayLondon, Apr 20, Fugitive businessman Vijay Mallya has suffered a major setback as UK High Court on Monday dismissed an appeal against his extradition to India.
The dismissal of the High Court appeal effectively clears the decks for Mallya’s extradition to India to face the charges in the Indian courts, with 14 days for him to apply for permission to appeal to the UK Supreme Court.
Vijay Mallya is wanted for financial offenses worth Rs 9,000 crore borrowed by his company Kingfisher Airlines from several banks in India.
After this decision of the High Court, the matter of final decision on Mallya’s extradition will now go to the Home Secretary Preeti Patel.
Mallya said in his tweet on March 31, ‘I have consistently offered banks to pay their full money.
Neither the bank has been willing to take the money nor the Enforcement Directorate to release the assets. I wish the Finance Minister would listen to me at this time. ‘
