New Delhi, Mar 30, The nationwide tally of confirmed cases of Coronavirus infection mounted to 1,071 and death toll to 29 on Monday as the country entered the sixth day of its lockdown with the government claiming no plan to extend it beyond April 14.
The number of active cases in the country at present amount to 942, the Health Ministry confirmed, adding that 99 have so far been cured and discharged.
President Ram Nath Kovind has prorogued the Rajya Sabha, which was adjourned sine die on March 29.
“The Rajya Sabha, which adjourned sine die on the March 23, has been prorogued by the President on the March 29,” a communique by the Rajya Sabha Secretariat said.
The Centre dismissed media reports that ongoing 21-day nationwide lockdown would be extended beyond April 14. Rejecting ongoing speculation in certain media reports, Cabinet Secretary Rajiv Gauba termed it ‘baseless’.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised the dedication and commitment of the various social welfare organisations towards serving humanity during the fight against the Coronavirus pandemic.
Interacting with representatives of organisations working towards social welfare, via video conference, the PM , recalling that Mahatma Gandhi used to say that serving the poor and downtrodden is the best way to serve the nation, praised the dedication and commitment of the participating organisations towards serving humanity.
Terming it “fake”, the Indian Army dismissed all the social media messages claiming that Emergency will be declared in the country in mid-April and that the Indian Army veterans and National Cadet Corps will be deployed to assist the civil administration to tackle the coronavirus pandemic.
