New Delhi, Dec 24 : India’s incumbent Ambassador to the United States, Harsh Vardhan Shringla, will be new Foreign Secretary.
The Appointment Commitment of the Cabinet approved the appointment of Mr Shringla, 1984 batch IFS officer as the new Foreign Secretary, an order from the Ministry of Personnel said here.
The appointment of Mr Shringla will come into effect from January 29, 2020 “upon completion of two year term” of Vijay Keshav Gokhale as Foreign Secretary on January 28, 2020, the order said.
He previously served as the High Commissioner of India to Bangladesh and Ambassador to Thailand.
Mr Shringla has also served as Joint Secretary responsible for Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Myanmar and Maldives and has headed the United Nations Political and SAARC Divisions in the Ministry.
Earlier, he also served as Director of Division dealing with Nepal and Bhutan and as Deputy Secretary of the Europe West Division.
