New Delhi, Aug 2: The Supreme Court on Thursday transferred five cases related to the Unnao rape and accident to the Special Court, CBI, Delhi and ordered to complete the trial in 45 days by hearing the case on a day-to-day basis.
Headed by Chief Justice of India, Ranjan Gogoi, the bench ordered that the probe into Sunday’s accident near Rae Bareli be completed preferably in seven days and maximum within 15 days.
The State of Uttar Pradesh was ordered to pay a compensation of Rs 25 lakh to the grievously injured rape victim who continued to be on ventilator in the King George Medical University hospital.
Bharatiya Janata Party legislator Kuldeep Singh Sengar, the main accused in the Unnao rape case, was expelled by the party on Thursday.
Accused can, the bench ruled, move the apex court directly in case they wanted to challenge the ex-parte order. It also ordered an inquiry into whether there was any negligence on part of any officer of the Supreme Court Registry in the delay in processing the letter of Unnao rape victim. The inquiry to be held within seven days, will be supervised by a sitting judge of the apex court to be nominated by CJI Gogoi.
