Rajnath to inaugurate smart border system in Assam today

New Delhi, Mar 5: With an aim to check infiltration on a particular 61 Km patch on eastern international border with Bangladesh at Dhubari in Assam, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh will inaugurate the Border Electronically Dominated QRT Interception Technique (BOLD-QIT) project, under the Comprehensive Integrated Border Management system (CIBMS) on India-Bangladesh border on Tuesday.
BOLD-QIT is the project to install technical systems under the CIBMS which enables BSF to equip Indo-Bangla borders with different kind of sensors in the unfenced riverine area of Brahmaputra and its tributaries.
The Border Security Force (BSF), which guards 4,096 km-long International Border with Bangladesh, had a daunting task to secure a 61 KMs patch on border area in Dhubri district where River Brahmaputra enters into Bangladesh is consisting of vast char lands and innumerable river channels especially during rainy season.
In January 2018, the BSF Information and Technology wing undertook the project BOLD-QIT (Border Electronically Dominated QRT Interception Technique) and completed it in record time with the technical support of various manufacturers and suppliers.
Now, the entire span of Brahmaputra River has been covered with data network generated by Microwave communication, OFC Cables, DMR Communication, day and night surveillance cameras and intrusion detection system.
“These modern gadgets provide feeds to BSF Control Rooms on the Border and enable BSF Quick Reaction Teams to thwart any possibility of Illegal Cross Border crossing or crimes”, a senior BSF functionary told UNI.

Earlier, the Home Minister also inaugurated two smart fencing pilot projects of five kilometers each on India-Pakistan international border in Jammu, in September, 2018.
