Government asks Supreme Court to allow land transfer near disputed Ayodhya site

New Delhi : The  Modi government on Tuesday asked the Supreme Court to allow it to hand over land to a Hindu trust that wants to build a temple in Ayodhya.

The Supreme Court did not immediately respond to the petition. In the past, it has urged parties to the Ayodhya dispute to observe the status quo and deployed security forces to ensure there is no activity in the area.

Several BJP leaders including the likes of Dr Subramanian Swamy, Ram Madhav and UP Chief
Minister Yogi Adityanath have welcomed the central government move.
The Union government had acquired a total of 67.703 acres of land in 1993. This included the land of Ram Jananbhoomi Nyas, it said adding – the land under litigation that is where the disputed structur existed, admeasures only 0.313 acres.
All other land including of Ram Janambhoomi Nyas is not under any dispute, the VHP said welcoming the Centre’s move.
