New Delhi, Jan 15: The Ten per cent reservation for economically weaker sections in jobs and educational institutions has come into effect from Monday.
The Bill providing reservation for EWS in jobs and educational institutes had received the nod from President Ram Nath Kovind on Saturday, thus paving way for it becoming a law .
The Centre issued a notification on Monday to put the law into force .
‘’Under the powers conferred by sub-section (2) of Section-1 of the 103rd Amendment Act, 2019 of the Constitution, the Central Government sets the date of January 14 2019 to be effective in this law,’’a notification issued by the ministry of social justice and empowerment said.
The Union Cabinet had on January 7 cleared a Bill providing reservation of ten per cent for economically weaker sections of society .
The Bill was passed in the Lok Sabha on January 8 and in the Rajya Sabha on January 9.
On January 12, the Bill had got the nod of President Ram Nath Kovind.
The Gujarat Government has also implemented the reservation of ten per cent for economically weaker sections in the state from January 14.
After the notification by the central government the ten per cent reservation for EWS in jobs and educational institutions has been put into force in Central government jobs.
As far as educational institutions are concerned this reservation will be applicable in all private institutes , excluding minority higher educational institutes.
