New Delhi : The AAP government started implementing its poll promises from its very first day in office, which is “unheard of” when it comes to politics in India, claimed Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal . Releasing a summary of achievements of the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) during the first year of AAP in power, he said, “The Delhi government implemented the provision of free water up to 20 kiloliters per family per month. This policy benefited all stakeholders as citizens reaped rewards of zero billing and cross subsidy bolstered revenue.”
He released the DJB annual report of achievements for 2015-16, listing a total of 212 gains and improvements in nine areas, including policy-level decisions, water sector, e-governance, revenue, administration, renewable energy and anti-corruption measures. Kapil Mishra, Water Minister and DJB chairman, said proper demand-side management, supply-side management, organisational water distribution audit and water accounting were the themes of the DJB’s working under the first-year rule of the AAP government. “The DJB also made transformative improvement in water pipeline and supply and reached constituencies like Dwarka, Sangam Vihar and Tughlakabad,” said Mishra. “The DJB has managed to improve its working and monitored sewage management. An increase in the revenue by Rs 170 crore, dispelled the myths of poor economics,” said DJB CEO Keshav Chandra, who was also present on the occasion.
A year of betrayal: Cong
The Congress party today termed one-year of the Arvind Kejriwal government as a “complete failure” and said the ruling party in Delhi had been finding excuses not to work and betrayed the people who elected it to office. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government had scored “a zero out of hundred” in its first-year, said Ajay Maken, Delhi Congress chief. “AAP did not fulfil their poll promises. The list is very long,” he said. Maken, who was accompanied by several senior Congress leaders, also released a booklet titled ‘Kejriwal ek saal, Delhi behaal’ (one year of Kejriwal: Delhi in a bad shape). He said the Congress party would go to the people and tell them about the failures of the AAP government. “The booklet talks about the failures of the government in terms of governance, principles that AAP espoused, politics of conflict, stagnation in development, price rise and security of women,” he added.
One-year proved to be a black year: BJP
The one-year rule of the AAP government in Delhi has proved to be a black year and a year of deceit in the history of the national Capital, said the BJP. They said the state government and the Centre had disagreed on every issue, including police, land, transfer and suspension of officers, Lokpal, share of municipal funds, Assembly issues etc. The AAP tenure that is going to complete one-year tomorrow has not even approved a single development project. The BJP said Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal talked of the issues that gave him maximum publicity. It was for the first time in the history that the Municipal Corporations of Delhi had faced financial crisis due to wrong policies of the AAP government. Delhi BJP chief Satish Upadhyay said, “As we analyse the government’s performance on the basis of people’s feedback, the report card gives a zero out of 10 to the government.”He said the AAP government had promised the people of Delhi that electricity would be given at half rates and free water would be supplied to all, but nothing was done.
