New Delhi, May 12: The Supreme Court Collegium on Friday, in principle, agreed to reaffirm Uttarakhand High Court Chief Justice K M Joseph’s choice for elevation to the apex court.
However, it decided to send Justice Joseph’s name back together with some others for appointment as apex court Judges.
The meeting stood deferred to be held on May 16, Wednesday, at 1615 hrs, stated the Collegium order, accessed by the United News of India.
Other picks, it said, will be decided at the May 16 meeting and till then Justice Joseph’s name would not be sent to the Centre.
The Collegium met today to discuss and consider reiteration of the recommendation of January 10, 2018, order for the elevation of Justice Joseph as a judge of the Supreme Court.
Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra and the other members of the Collegium — Justices Jasti Chelameswar, Ranjan Gogoi, Madan Bhimrao Lokur and Kurian Joseph — have, in principle, unanimously agreed that the recommendation for the appointment of Justice Joseph as elevation to the Supreme Court judge should be reiterated.
However, the recommendation should also be accompanied by those of other Chief Justices of High Courts for elevation as judges of the Supreme Court for which a detailed discussion was required.
