Justice Rajinder Sachar passes away

Justice Rajinder SacharNew Delhi, Apr 20 : Former chief justice of Delhi High Court (DHC) Rajinder Sachar passed away here on Friday morning. He was 94.
According to his family sources, at around 1100 hrs, he breathed his last at a private hospital. He will be cremated at Lodhi Road crematorium at around 1730 hrs.
He headed the Sachar Committee, constituted by the UPA Government, which submitted a report on the social, economic and educational status of Muslims in India, which is yet to be implemented.
Sachar served as Chief Justice of Delhi HC from August 6, 1985 to December 22, 1985. He also served as a counsel for the People’s Union for Civil Liberties, a human rights body.
Meanwhile, condoling his death, Nobel peace laureate Kailash Satyarthi in a tweet said, ‘India has lost a judicial luminary and a true human rights advocate. I will always remember Justice Rajinder Sachar as a friend for his motivation and guidance. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.”
