Jammu, Mar 18 : Five civilians have been killed on Sunday morning when Pakistani troops violated the ceasefire along the Line of Control in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir.
“Pakistan resorted to heavy unprovoked firing at 0745 hrs in Mankote area of Rajouri,” official spokesman here said.
Pakistan fired automatics, small arms and mortars, he said, adding, “the civilian areas are being targeted.”
He said that Indian Army is befittingly retaliating to the firing which is in progress.
Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Rajouri Shahid Iqbal Choudhary said, ‘Five civilian deaths have been reported so far in the firing.”
He said that four of a family and one from another family were among those killed including a child.
Ceasefire violation was also reported in Mendhar area of Poonch.
Pakistan has been violating the truce agreement along the LoC in Rajouri and Poonch districts for the last one week.
