New Delhi, Feb 21: The Supreme Court on Tuesday rejected the plea of the Centre to grant time till July 31 to make a final publication of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Assam.
A division bench, headed by Justice Ranjan Gogoi and also comprising Justice Rohinton Fali Nariman, said it did not agree with the submissions made by Attorney General K K Venugopal that Assam is doing its very best and that no prejudice would be caused if more time would be given to complete the NRC work.
It told the AG, “We ignore your arguments. It is the court alone which is doing its very best.”
