New Delhi, Feb 20: Taking serious note of the inaction of the Government of India in filling up the vacancies of the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights, the Delhi High Court on Monday directed it to make the appointments within 90 days.
A bench of acting Chief Justice Gita Mittal and Justice Hari Shankar delivered the order while hearing a Public Interest Litigation filed by Supreme Court counsel-cum-social activist Radhakanta Tripathy.
Pursuant to the direction of the Court on 13th November, the Joint Secretary from the Ministry of Women and Child Development, Ms Asthaa Khatwani, was present before the High Court with relevant file. When asked by the bench what was the difficulty in appointment, she replied it is not the ministry of Women and Child Development but the Prime Minister’s Office that’s responsible for the delay in taking the decision.
