Britannia Biscuit major Britannia is planning to start the largest project in its history which would be a food park at Ranjangaon in Maharashtra.

“It would have the largest biscuit capacity we have anywhere having cakes, rusk, the croissant plant plus distribution depots, flour mill and a dairy plant having 700,000-litre a day capacity,” chairman Nusli Wadia told shareholders at the annual general meeting of the company.

Detailing Britannia’s plans for Ranjangaon, managing director Varun Berry said investments would touch about Rs 1,000 crore over a period of 4-5 years, which would also create employment for around 3,000 people.

“We are looking at a mega food park for which have made an application to the Maharashtra government. We already have 96 acres and plan to acquire another 48 acres,” Berry told reporters after the meeting.

Initially, Britannia would be having six biscuit lines and one each for cakes, rusks and the newly-planned croissant, with a capacity of 1.2 lakh tonne a year.

“It will eventually have a flour mill as well and our first dairy back-end,” he said.
