New Delhi, June 7: Misuse of digital space which is being increasingly used to perpetuate violence against women and children came up for discussion on the issue of cyber crime against women and children, particularly the elimination of online child sexual abuse material, rape imagery and other offensive material.
Today’s meeting was a one-of-a-kind round table with various stakeholders under the chairpersonship of Women and Child Development Minister Maneka Sanjay Gandhi, discussing the problem of cyber crime, particularly the elimination of online child sexual abuse material, rape imagery and other offensive material.
Participants at the round table decided on the need to initiate action on building an international alliance to ensure full protection to women and children from the borderless nature of cyber crime; develop an online Central Reporting Mechanism for lodging and escalating complaints of cyber crime from anywhere anytime and making a mechanism for real time removal/blocking of offensive material online within the next three months.
The round table also took up the issues of raising the number of one stop centres which have assisted more than 1.3 lakh distressed women to 600 by 2019, creation of a special division to address the issues of women safety and Rs 6,000 crore Nirbhaya Fund set up for women safety and security.
Also mentioned at the meeting were NRI matrimonial disputes and opening of an advanced DNA laboratory dedicated to women-related cases.
On a National Policy for Women, Ms Gandhi informed the participants that her ministry has prepared the ‘draft National Policy for Women, 2017 after considering over 15000 suggestions/comments received from stakeholders.’ Replying to a query from a mediaperson, the minister said the policy has been submitted to the Cabinet, an official release here said.
